A Brief History of Ballito...
The Kwazulu Natal North Coast township of Ballito was formed in early 1954 when Basil Townsend, owner of the Compensation sugarcane estate granted an option of 200 acres of farmland to Doctor Rubenstein of the Glen Anil Investments development company.Ballito got its name from the cover of an Italian hosiery magazine that the doctor had found entitled Ballito Hosiery. The lure of a picture of a women's long legs in stockings must have been the deciding factor for the doctor. The word "Ballito" translated from Italian means "little ball".
Today there are all types of North Coast accommodation in Ballito including 5 star hotels, guest houses, bed and breakfasts and even backpackers. Ballito accommodation and business parks have grown dramatically offering more choice to holidaymakers than ever before.
